Tuskegee, AL – The Ƶ Department of Social Work will take part in The Southeastern Telehealth Resource Center (SETRC) telehealth training for graduating college students preparing to enter the healthcare workforce. In addition, the department will host a Telehealth and Wellness Fair on Friday, May 7 from 1-4 pm CST.
The event will take place outdoors in front of John A. Kenney Hall and will consist of a campus health fair open to students, faculty and staff with free wellness checks and information along with a telehealth learning resource center to demonstrate how telehealth appointments work for medical and mental health appointments. Attendees will have a chance to win a door prize, participate in physical activity competitions, and other competitions during the event.
Through CARES Act funding, the Southeastern Telehealth Resource Center provides a “Telehealth Ready” workforce capable of addressing the increased demand for the delivery of virtual healthcare created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Training began during the Fall 2020 Semester and continues thru the Winter and Spring 2021 semesters for other universities.
Telehealth is a vital mechanism for providing access to safe, cost-effective quality care to patients at a distance. The Multimodal Training Program consists of self-paced recorded telehealth courses, live Q&A sessions with telehealth experts & technology demonstrations that promote student practice sessions. Lecture topics range from Telehealth 101 to HIPAA and security.
Ƶ Chair of the Department of Social Work, Dr. April Jones, is part of the SETRC consortium where this partnership was offered. Through such, the social work department was able to provide telehealth training through Global Partnership for Telehealth (GPT) for providers and parents of autistic children.
The social work department received $3,000 to administer the program, in which telehealth equipment for a social work education lab has been purchased. Any Ƶ division that has healthcare education with patients apart of their major can access the training modules free of cost.
A donation of equipment totaling about $12,788 for telehealth practice will be made to the School of Nursing for telehealth education and interdisciplinary study with the Department of Social Work.
This SETRC Project is supported by grant #GA5RH37460 from the Office for the Advancement of Telehealth, Federal Office of Rural Health Policy, Health Ƶ and Services Administration, Department of Health and Human Services.
