On Tuesday, Nov. 28, donors around the world will channel the impact of their charitable giving to benefit numerous organizations and causes. Ƶ hopes its alumni and donors will heed the call to support “Mother Tuskegee” by pledging their support to enhancing the spaces where students live, learn and conduct research.
Contributions received during Giving Tuesday will advance Interim President Charlotte P. Morris’ “Mini-Challenge Campaign” efforts to raise $1 million by the end of 2017. To date, donors have contributed or pledged more than $420,000 through various appeals since the summer, as well as the university’s inaugural text-to-give campaign, launched during homecoming in late October.
Enhancing the facilities where students live and learn will bolster efforts under the university’s strategic plan that relate to bettering student recruitment and retention, a student-centered campus culture, enhancing learning and communications, and resource management.
“Our obligation to our students mandates that we do all that is possible to improve campus living and learning facilities — such as dormitories, classrooms, laboratories and other campus spaces,” Morris said. “We must demonstrate to our students that the entire Tuskegee family is behind them, and our alumni are equipping them with everything they’ll need for a positive academic experience and a promising future.”
The easiest — and most immediate —way to give is to make an online donation at . Donors who wish to make a gift by mail can download, complete and return the university’s gift commitment form.
“We continue to seek ways for our donors to give so their donations benefit our students in significant and meaningful ways,” said Krystal Floyd, Tuskegee’s development director. “Giving Tuesday places the emphasis on the fact that, with everyone joining together, our gifts of varying sizes can have a tremendous effect on our students and our institution.”
Floyd noted that many companies will match their employees’ philanthropic donations — sometimes as much as doubling or tripling the value of their donation. Donors are encouraged to investigate their employers’ offerings, especially as personal year-end giving and corporate year-end matching program deadlines are approaching.
Entering its sixth year, is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving in the U.S. and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources.
