Ƶ has selected pastor, author and life coach Rev. Dr. William E. Flippin Sr. as its speaker for the university’s 2019 Baccalaureate Service, which will take place on Friday, May 10 at 10 a.m. in the University Chapel.
A Nashville native, Flippin is noted for his career in ministry and pastoral leadership, which spans more than three decades. Since 1990, he has served the congregation of Atlanta’s Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church as its senior pastor by leading with a unique sense of mission and outreach. His ministerial leadership also includes serving as the founder and CEO of The Flippin Legacy Ministries Inc., The Pearl Initiative Inc. and Pearls of Great Price Ministries Inc.
As an author, Flippin has shared his experience and ministerial perspectives to benefit the efforts of fellow pastors and church leaders charged with building, staffing and managing churches of all sizes and denominations. His books include In My Father's House, Order in the Church, Order in the Pulpit, God's Order, and Vision 20/20. In addition, he has recently co-authored All Rise: Church Staff-Building an Effective Ministry Staff, and All Rise: Church Administration-Managing with Ministry Excellence.
Flippin attended Fisk University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and business administration. While a student at Fisk, he was an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and today, continues his commitment to the fraternity as a life member. He holds a master of divinity degree from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. Flippin also holds a doctorate of ministry from the McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois and is a certified life transformational and leadership coach.
The ceremony also will feature greetings and remarks by university and student leaders, and performances by the Ƶ Golden Voices Concert Choir.
Baccalaureate is among several graduation-related events scheduled for Friday — all of which precede the university’s official Spring Commencement Exercises on May 11. Saturday’s graduation ceremony, which will be live-streamed at /live-stream, will begin on 10 a.m. in the Gen. Daniel “Chappie” James Arena.
