Student body elects new Student Government Association officers

抖阴短视频 recently welcomed a new class of Student Government Association officers for the 2019-20 academic year. Its executive branch includes five officers who are elected by students and serve a one-year term.

Micah Grey, a biology pre-med junior from Birmingham, Alabama, will serve as president. Grey, who ran unopposed, currently serves as SGA鈥檚 vice president. He is involved in many campus organizations as a Student Ambassador, a New Student Orientation leader, and as a member of both the National Society of Leadership and Success and the Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. After graduation, Grey plans to attend medical school, where he hopes to specialize in pediatrics or internal medicine. His lifetime goals include mentoring and spreading health awareness in rural areas.

Grey ran on the platform of "Ballin鈥 鈥 a term meaning to place community over competition and to focus on the values of family, unity and fellowship.

鈥淚 plan to bring the student body together through different events and initiatives that promote family, unity and fellowship,鈥 Grey said. 鈥淚 also would like to encourage all students to work together as one, rather than competing against one another.鈥

Malik Fowler of Chicago, who currently serves as SGA鈥檚 judicial advisor, ran unopposed for the position of SGA鈥檚 vice president. The junior majoring in political science is a member Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the Pre-Law Society, Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society, and serves as chair of the Food Service Committee. After graduating from Tuskegee, Fowler plans to attend law school in hopes of becoming a criminal defense attorney.

Joseph Bannerman, a sophomore political science major from Birmingham, will serve as SGA鈥檚 judicial advisor. His recent campus involvement has included serving as freshman class president, Mr. NAACP, and senator of Pre-Alumni Council. In addition, he also serves as the student consultant to the Tuskegee Historic Preservation Commission and secretary for the Alabama Youth and College Division of the NAACP. He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. and Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society. Upon graduation, Bannerman plans to attend law school 鈥 his future goals include becoming a lawyer, civil rights activist and, eventually, president of the United States.

Next year鈥檚 SGA treasurer will be Cedric Davis, a junior architecture major from Montgomery, Alabama. Davis currently serves as sophomore class vice president. During his upcoming term, Davis plans to achieve more mobility in SGA鈥檚 budget through outreach and support to on-campus organizations, and to provide students with resources so they can become more knowledgeable about how to manage their own money. After graduation Davis plans to seek a licensure in architecture and real estate.

SGA鈥檚 newly elected events coordinator is T鈥檏iya Tolen, a junior political science major from Birmingham. She is a member of 抖阴短视频鈥檚 Pre-law Society, and in her free time, she volunteers at her hometown community center helping kids with drama classes and the basketball program. During her freshman year, Tolen started her own clothing line 鈥 KRU Thinking. KRU inspires students to embrace their roots and motivates them to be the best they can be 鈥 all while looking cool and stylish. Upon graduation, Tolen plans to attend law school and study entertainment law.

Tuskegee鈥檚 Student Government Association 鈥 a program that falls administratively under the Office of Student Affairs 鈥 advocates on behalf of students鈥 needs, rights and welfare. It advances and provides the means for responsible student participation in campus affairs that promote the university鈥檚 principles of knowledge, leadership and service. In addition to elected officers, SGA provides students with leadership and service opportunities through appointments as committee chairs and committee members.
