Ƶ Bands welcomes Rickey Oglesby as assistant director

College of Arts and Sciences, Dept of Fine & Performing Arts and the Ƶ Bands are proud to announce Rickey Oglesby as Assistant Director of Bands and Percussion Instructor. He will also serve as Instructor of Music and teach courses in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Oglesby joins the Golden Tiger family with over a decade of experience, most recently serving as Assistant Director of Bands and Percussion Instructor at Edward Waters University (EWU) from 2015 to 2023. At EWU, he elevated both the percussion studio and drumline to national prominence, earning ESPN’s “The Undefeated” No. 1 Drumline rank in their 2021 HBCU Band Rankings of Division II HBCU bands.

He is an accomplished arranger, having written for the EWU "Triple Threat" Marching Band as well as over a dozen high school bands across the southeastern United States. Prior to his appointment at Ƶ, Oglesby maintained a robust teaching schedule as a clinician, adjudicator, and percussion consultant across the Duval County School District and the State of Florida.

Oglesby earned a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Bethune-Cookman University and a master’s degree in music education from the University of North Florida. His professional affiliations include the National Education Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Florida Music Education Association, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He is married to his wife, KeShari, and together they have one son.
