This past Sunday, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and distinguished guests gathered for the university's Opening Fall Convocation. Alumnus and retired business professional Willie Shellman, '69, gave this year's address.

Shellman's professional career has included positions as Executive Director, Business Development and Operation Manager, and Electrical Engineer. His career began in a technical role as a design engineer in the Aero-Space Industry. He later held Business Development and Analysis positions in the Computer and Internet Industries. He concluded his professional experience as Executive Director of a YMCA of Greater Boston Branch dedicated to educational enrichment and career awareness programs for middle and high school students.

Holding an airline ticket in hand, Shellman spoke to the first-year class about the "simple" things, and no matter where you go, you must do simple things to get your ticket to your ride through life. Those simple things determine your success in your destination, and be careful of distractions that detract from your ultimate goal.

"You are here at Tuskegee to get a ticket to ride, a ticket that will take you from where you are to where you want to go, and by doing simple things while you are here,  you will earn a symbolic piece of paper, that when you show to the world, you have done the things required that you have the privilege to ride from where you are to where you want to go in life," noted Shellman.

Following the address, Abena Myers-Taylor '96, alumna and Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, introduced the next generation of leaders who will guide ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ through the 2023-2024 academic year. Among them were Miss ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ and her Court, alongside Mr. Tuskegee and the Gentleman University Ambassadors, representing the university's finest traditions of excellence and service.

Also, during the convocation, the Eminent Associates and Pre-Alumni Council were presented by Kym Holland, '86, alumna and Coordinator of Alumni Affairs, and Solomon Banks, '64, Immediate Past Chairman, Eminent Associates.

Notably, the Eminent Associates presented President Charlotte P. Morris with a generous check amounting to $182,927.70, serving as a poignant reminder of the profound bond shared between ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ and its alums, reaffirming their unwavering dedication to the institution's ongoing success and its promising future.
