Originally from Opelika, AL passed away in Mobile, AL on Dec.2, 2022.

After graduatingfrom high school in 1971, he entered Tuskegee Institute, where heconcentrated in pre-med studies and pledged the Alpha Phi Alphafraternity. He graduated from medical school at the University of South Alabama in1980 to begin a career as an African-American trailblazer, the first to trainas a resident and a fellow at USA (Univ of South Ala Health). He joined the faculty in 1984 as the firstAfrican-American clinical and basic sciences faculty member. He was adevoted mentor to countless medical students and residents and a tirelessadvocate for more opportunities in medicine for students fromdisadvantaged communities.In September 2022, USA named itssickle cell center, which he headed since 2001, in his honor.

The Alpha Phi Alpha Omega service was held at 7 pm on Thur.,December 8, at Small’s Mortuary at 950 S. Broad Street in Mobile.The funeral service was held at 10:30 am on Friday, December 9, at St.Paul’s Episcopal Church at 4051 on Old Shell Road. The burial service washeld at 12 Noon on Sat, Dec. 10, at Garden Hills Cemeteryin Opelika, Al. He graduated from Carver High School, Montgomery, AL in 1967 and matriculated to Tuskegee Institute and Alabama State University.He was drafted into the United States Army where he served 12 years while being stationed in Iran, Germany, and the United States. He went on to work for the federal government for 35 years with positions at the United States Patent and Trade Office, the United States Postal Service, and the Veterans Administration Hospital. He retired in 2005 from federal service.

After retiring from active duty, Jim was an independent certified Cisco Ntework Administrator Trainer where he traveled throughout the U.S. teaching network certification courses.

David Calloway Ross Jr., passed after a brief, non-COVID-19-related illness, the funeral home confirmed.
Ross, 72, was a lifelong Montgomery resident and U.S. Air Force veteran. He graduated from Tuskegee Institute and Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science and succeeded his father, David Calloway Ross Sr., as president of Ross-Clayton Funeral Home in 1978.
Ross is survived by his wife, Sarah Ann Ross, four children and one grandson.

Rear Admiral Gastonreceived a commission as an Ensign in the U.S Navy in December 1965. He had an impressive naval career spanning 31 years, including command of two destroyers and cruiser USS Josephus Daniels, and ashore as Commander Field Command, Defense Nuclear Agency and the first black Commander of Naval Training Center Great Lakes. He retired in 1995. Following retirement from the U.S. Navy, he pursued a successful corporate career at Waste Management, Inc. and Electronic Data Systems in senior executive positions.

She then attended Tuskegee Institute where she received her Doctorate in 1980. After receiving her DVM, Mickey began practicing medicine in Elk Point, South Dakota with Dr. Sidney Milburn. She was also the official Veterinarian for the State of Iowa Racing Commission. In 1981 she moved to Trenton, New Jersey and resided there for the next 19 years. In 2000, Mickey retired from the State of New Jersey Department of Agriculture and returned to Oak Ridge.

longtime activist for human rights. She isbest known as the woman in the iconic photo of the “Bloody Sunday” civil rights march. She was gassed and brutally beaten by law enforcement agents at the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Ala., on March 7, 1965. During the 50th anniversary of themarch, she returned and was
personally escorted across the bridge by President Barack Obama.The Smithsonian Institution National Museum of African American History and Culture in collaboration with the Ƶ Archives will preserve and share the legacy of this civil rights pioneer.

Rabb worked for four TU presidents duringhis 46-year tenure at the institution.He served as
administrator of the former John A. Andrew Hospital, secretary of the TU Board of Trustees under former Tuskegee president, Luther Foster and has also worked in the Office of the President as assistant to the president from 1974 to 1981. He was 101 years old.
