Biosafety Committee

¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Biosafety Committee is charged the responsibility of ensuring that all activities within ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ involving potentially biohazardous materials are conducted in a safe manner and in confomity with federal mandated standards.Ìý Biohazardous material includes infectious biological agents, toxins (carcinogens, mutagens, and tetrogens, and other hazardous chemicals), animal or human tissue or fluids, radioactive materials, and recombinant DNA.Ìý Infectious biological agents are viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites and other organisms/genetic systems that, by virtue of their replication properties, are potentially harmful to humans and/ or other living systems.

The Biosafety Committee regular scheduled meeting date is the last Tuesday of each month except December. All applications must be submitted a minimum of 10 working days prior to the committee's regular scheduled meeting.

Submit one (1) copy of the application packet to Kenney Hall, Room 44-328, Felecia Grant, and one (1) electronic copy to fmossgrant@tuskegee.edu.

The package should include:

  • Biosafety Application (see attached below)
  • Laboratory Inspection Approval Letter
  • Laboratory Safety Training Certificate

*The Biosafety Committee schedules two laboratory inspections of all labs each year.Ìý Use the Biosafety Inspection Checklist, below, to make sure your lab is compliance before the inspection.Ìý
