THEME: “Feeding Value of Byproducts for Meat Goats with Special Focus on Hempseed Meal”

About Goat Day

The Ƶ (TU) Annual Goat Day will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. The workshop will be held in in-person. Dr. Uma Karki and Dr. Clarissa Harris will provide an update on the status of goat research and extension/outreach activities at the unit and the TU meat science program. Our featured speakers will discuss feed and forage topics around current research on hempseed meal. Mr. Alphonso Elliott, Master County Agent/Specialist, will moderate a roundtable discussion that will feature sustainable goat production practices, challenges, and opportunities in meat goat production. The afternoon will be a site of forages grown at the Goat Unit and visit the goat unit and testing various types of goat meat delicacies. Program overview

Ƶ Annual Goat Day will beheld on the thirdSaturday in April from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. The theme of the Goat Day is usually designed to focus on ongoing problems of the producers and covers subjects ranging from nutrition, reproduction, and health, to marketing and enterprise budgeting. Depending on the selected theme, experienced speakers are invited throughout the nation to present topics related to the theme of the day. An essential component of the Goat Day is the Producer’s Panel where producers share their successes and failures with others. The afternoon sessions are hands-on sessions where producers learn how to evaluate an animal, do fecal egg counts and pasture management, etc.
